Learn What Changes When You Go Deeper
The Deep Diver Specialty is for certified divers who want to move beyond the typical Open Water depth range and better understand how depth changes the dive.
You will explore how increased pressure affects gas consumption, buoyancy, light, color, comfort, no-decompression limits, and overall planning. The goal is not simply to reach a deeper number; it is to become more deliberate about the decisions that matter when there is less time, less light, and less margin for poor planning.
This is still recreational diving. You will remain within recreational depth limits, maintain a direct route to the surface, and plan dives around appropriate no-decompression limits.

Yes. If you completed the Deep Adventure Dive during your Advanced Adventure course, that dive counts as the first dive toward the SDI Deep Diver Specialty.
Students who completed Advanced Adventure with Precision Depth Diving receive a $100 discount on the Deep Diver Specialty course. You’ll complete the remaining three training dives, along with the required eLearning and course planning.
No. The prerequisite is Open Water Scuba Diver certification or an equivalent entry-level certification. Advanced Adventure can be a helpful next step, but it is not required.
Deep Diver training begins beyond 60 feet. Training dives are planned progressively, with a maximum course depth of 100 feet depending on the dive site, conditions, and student readiness.
No. Deep Diver is a recreational specialty course. It does not include decompression procedures, overhead-environment training, staged decompression, or technical-diving certification.
The course includes two instructor-led open-water training dives, along with SDI eLearning and dive-planning instruction.
You should have appropriate personal gear for the conditions, including exposure protection, mask, fins, snorkel, and a dive computer. Rental gear, such as BCs, regulators, tanks, and weights available for rent.
The certification recognizes successful completion of the course, but it does not replace judgment, experience, local conditions, buddy planning, or dive-operator requirements. Divers should stay within their training, experience, comfort level, and the limits of the specific dive plan.
