SDI Inactive Diver/Scuba Refresher Course

Scuba Refresher Course in Jacksonville: SDI Inactive Diver, Jacksonville, FL

Get Back in the Water with Confidence

Haven’t been diving in a while? Planning a trip, joining a charter, or getting ready for your next course? Our SDI Inactive Diver/Refresher course is built to help certified divers rebuild comfort, review essential skills, and get back in the water with confidence.

This is not a full certification course. It is a focused, instructor-led refresher designed for already-certified divers who want to sharpen up before diving again.

Cost: $150 (due on first day of class)

Certified diver required |  1 day to complete   |  Small class sizes

Course price includes SDI eLearning. Students provide personal gear and are responsible for gas fills and site entry fees. Rental gear available upon request.

WHAT YOU’LL REVIEW

The exact session is adjusted to your experience level, comfort, and goals, but SDI outlines core topics and skills that may be included in the refresher. These include dive planning, equalization, hand signals, lung over-expansion concerns, dive computer review, gear assembly, weighting, controlled descents and ascents, regulator recovery, mask clearing, buoyancy control, air sharing, and emergency scenarios.

Gear Setup & Pre-Dive Confidence

We will review how to assemble your scuba system, check your equipment, confirm gas supply, evaluate fit, and avoid common setup mistakes.

Weighting, Trim & Buoyancy

A lot of divers come back overweighted or uncomfortable in the water. We will work on better weighting, controlled descents, hovering, and basic buoyancy control.

Core Emergency Skills

You will refresh the skills you hope you never need, including regulator recovery, mask clearing, air sharing, controlled ascents, and basic emergency thinking.

Dive Planning & Awareness

We will review communication, gas awareness, computer use, ascent planning, buddy procedures, and how to make better decisions before and during the dive.

You have not been diving in a while

Maybe it has been a year. Maybe it has been ten. Either way, this course gives you a structured way to review your skills before jumping back into a real dive.

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases, your scuba certification does not expire. However, dive operators, resorts, charters, or instructors may ask about your recent dive history, especially if you have not been diving in a while. A refresher gives you a current, documented skills review.

There is no single rule that applies to every diver. If you feel rusty, anxious, unfamiliar with your gear, or unsure about basic skills, a refresher is a good idea. Many divers choose to refresh after a year or more out of the water, before a major trip, or before starting another course.

No. This is for divers who are already certified. The SDI Inactive Diver/Refresher program reviews your existing knowledge and skills. It does not replace an Open Water certification course.

Yes, as long as you have proof of an Open Water Scuba Diver certification or equivalent from a recognized agency. SDI standards allow equivalent certifications from recognized agencies.

That depends on your needs, comfort level, schedule, and conditions. SDI allows the required dive to be conducted in confined water, open water, or both.

The session may include gear assembly, weighting, mask clearing, regulator clearing and recovery, buoyancy control, controlled descent and ascent, air sharing, dive planning, and other essential skills. The instructor may adjust the session based on your skill level and needs.

You should have your own personal gear, including mask, fins, snorkel, boots, and exposure protection. If you do not own a BCD, regulator, tanks, or weights, rental gear may be available or arranged.

Yes. This is one of the best reasons to take a refresher. It is much better to work through rusty skills with an instructor before your trip than to figure it out on the first dive of vacation.

Yes. SDI specifically notes that this program can be used as a pathway into continuing education programs. After successful completion, graduates may enroll in SDI Advanced Adventure Diver, individual SDI Specialty Courses, or the SDI Advanced Diver Development Program based on their prior certification.
